Ernesto Colnago was born in Cambiago in the province of Milan on 9 February 1932. In 1953, after various experiences, including a period of work in the prestigious GLORIA company where he learned the trade, he opened his own workshop in his hometown. In 1954 he took part in the Giro d’Italia as a mechanic for Magni’s Nivea. He continued as a mechanic for Leo Chlorodont and in 1957 he built the bike with which Gastone Nencini won the Giro d’Italia. Increasingly appreciated as a manufacturer, he linked his name and brand to Eddy Merckx’s Molteni and Baronchelli’s SCIC. For Eddy Merckx he will build the bike with which the Belgian will set the hour record. Colnago bicycles have been used by more than one hundred professional teams, 2500 riders who have collected over 7500 victories in the world. Colnago bikes are one of the most prestigious brands of Made in Italy. They have raced with Colnago bikes Magni, Nencini, Merckx, Saronni, Motta, Baronchelli, Dancelli, Bugno, Musseuw, Rominger, Tonkov, Zabel, Petacchi.
The bike presented is in good condition, with some signs of aging. The paint, decals and chrome are original. It is set up with a Campagnolo Super Record group. Saddle Competition. Ambrosio rims. 3TTT handlebar and stem. The crankset, seat post, levers, brake levers, stem and handlebars are Colnago pantographs.
The bike has been completely overhauled and is ready to be pedaled.
