Hurtu was a brand of cars and bicycles established in Albert on the Somme (Hurtu was sold to SIA, Société Industrielle d’Ambert), then in Rueil and Paris. Founded in 1864, it was the factory of the French’s favorite sewing machines.
The brand produced light motorcycles, launched on the market around 1903 and, after the Second World War, with 49 cubic centimeter two-stroke engines.
The company has been missing for 60 years.
Hurtu cars are very elegant bicycles, they have a common and very popular brand, intended, as they were originally advertised, for a clientele that was more aristocratic than popular.
The bike can be dated between the end of the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s. It has been restored and is in perfect condition. It features a fixed pinion and pad brake. The original Hurtù crankset is beautiful.
As specified in the Hurtu catalogue, the bike was sold without a pad brake, which was considered an extra cost of 10 francs.
